But tourists following the person with megaphone will not have the same route as independent visitors.

Some landscapes are just fantastic and admire observers. Otaki’s Shizen- ko 自然湖, denoting “natural lake”, does not belong to this types of landscape. Its splendor and magnificence will be fathomed after observation and patient exploration. There is intimacy atmosphere about the lake and will not welcome people who do not want to engage it physically and spiritually. You can it look at it from afar, you should submerge to it fully. Actually, much of Shizen- ko is concealed behind the trees or within the canyon walls. This landscape is not for occasional passers-by. Enter the lake to understand it. A kayak (called カヌー,  which is pronounced like ka nu-, in Japanese, is a phonetic translation of “canoe”) is just perfect for it; it lets you act together with Shizen- ko. Ontake Adventure (おんたけアドベンチャー) of Otaki, arranges kayak tours on Shizen- ko providing the best experienceof Japanese tourist landscape at present.

N- san, has been conducting kayak tours on Shizen- ko for 5 years already. He has passion for his work Being dedicated to the Shizen- ko landscape. The waters of Shizen- ko shimmer wonderfully in the morning light reflecting the world around.

Shizen- ko started existing on the September 14 th , 1984. The magnitude 6.8 earthquake took place in Otaki then and a massive slab was dislodged from the mountain Ontake. The landslide partly covered Otaku River making this way a natural dam. So Shizen- ko appeared. Ascending waters filled the valley forming the lake and all trees and rocks were devoured by water element.  N-san teaches to maneuver the kayaks because it is the best way to explore the place. the instructor does his job with diligence though the kayaks are steady. He will not lead campers. They will explore the place on their own.
